Lynn is currently accepting applications for the Counselor position. The Counselor provides mental health services to the students at Lynn University.

This full time position works a 10 month schedule , mid-August to mid-June.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide counseling services to students who seek this support or whom have been referred for the service from campus partners.
  • Provide individual and group counseling in areas that may include, but are not limited to: personal development, educational success strategies, interpersonal relationships and processes, relationships, social problems, communication skills, substance abuse issues, identity development, and personal values.
  • Maintain documentation on presenting issues and on-going treatment plans through the use of electronic charts, as well as all client records and files.
  • Apply self-assessment techniques, when appropriate, to foster client self-understanding and decision-making skills.
  • Facilitate crisis intervention assessment and services as needed.
  • Assist with maintaining and creating resources for existing clients and for prevention education.
  • Encourage and support personal growth of all clients.
  • Initiate, organize and present educational programs as needed.
  • Construct and assess student learning outcomes programs and services.
  • Support and implement the divisional and University mission and strategic plan.
  • Support and advocate for the needs and interests of students.
  • Serve on University committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Attend and participate in weekly departmental meetings.
  • Consult with psychiatric nurse practitioner on cases involving shared clients.
  • Offer consultation to all University faculty and staff regarding mental health concerns within the campus community.
  • Provide crisis intervention, assessments, evaluations, outreach and referrals.
  • Maintain professional conduct and ethical behavior at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality and a high standard of professional care for all clients.
  • Maintain flexibility and ability in managing multiple clinical situations simultaneously, work well under pressure, work independently, and contribute as a member of a multi-disciplinary department and division.
  • This position requires evening hours to complete positon requirements; some weekend hours are necessary to assist with University initiatives and programs.
  • Provide after-hours care through an on-call rotation for crisis/and emergency situations.
  • Administer all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited University in counseling psychology, mental health or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of related professional experience required, preferably as a licensed and practicing psychotherapist.
  • Must already possess or be able to successfully obtain licensure as a Licensed Psychotherapist through the State of Florida Department of Professional Regulations within first six (6) months of employment.
  • Must maintain licensure and abide by all requirements of the State of Florida Department of Professional Regulations throughout employment.
  • Professional experience working with diverse individuals and groups that present with a variety of psychological issues.
  • Ability and willingness to work some evening and weekend hours as necessary.
  • Ability to serve in an on-call rotation for crisis/emergency situations.
  • Professional experience with successfully organizing and facilitating group therapy sessions for a variety of group topics.
  • Possess a specialty or significant professional experience on matters related to: gender issues, LGBTQ, learning differences and/or multicultural/social justice issues affecting students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a college or university setting and/or with college aged clients is strongly preferred.
  • Professional experience and/or training facilitating and implementing short-term models of treatment.
  • Knowledge and prior experience with Titanium software.
  • Candidates who are bilingual are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point).
  • Ability to use and keep current with an electronic medical recording system.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, organization and planning, prioritization, problem solving, follow through, time management, and oral & written communication skills.
